As part of our learning about the Kahu we have explored myths and legends that feature this special bird. One of these was Māui and the Goddess of Fire. In this story Māui turns himself into the powerful Kahu to escape a very angry Mahuika after he uses up all of her fire.
After some hot seating and pretend phone converations between the main characters, we worked with a buddy to retell the story in our own words.
Room 8 have recently been learning about the importance of a healthy, balanced diet. We were lucky enough to have Tina from the Heart Foundation come in and teach us about the main food groups and how to read the nutritional labels on food packets.
This important information can help us compare foods and make healthier choices.
We had the opportunity to put our learning to the test during a visit to Pak n Save in Botany.
At BMPS our staff and community have begun creating a vision for the future of our school. This term Room 8 added their thoughts and ideas about what they love about their school and ways they believe it could be even better.
We brainstormed our thoughts and presented them as word clouds
We created vision boards with ideas for the future:
We also created a video - check out our acting skills!
...and we designed new school logos!
On Thursday we presented our learning to Mr Lyth, Mrs McAree, Miss Peter and Wayne.
It was so great to be able to share our learning with an audience.
Even though we are year 6 children and only have 1 more term at BMPS, we feel proud that our ideas may benefit children at our school in the future.
Wow....what a week! A terms worth of learning from each class was finally on display at our whole school Creativity and Innovation Expo.
We were blown away with what each class had come up with and we were so proud and excited to finally be able to share our learning with our community.

Alongside this, we were researching our instrument, taking notes, drawing diagrams and writing information reports. We were also composing our own music and lyrics and experimenting with instruments in the music room with our buddy class.
This has been the most incredible learning! Room 8 students have been self motivated learners who have worked wonderfully with their partners. They have displayed fantastic creativity and the ability to work collaboratively to problem solve when things got tricky.
We celebrated our learning with a short 'concert' last week. You can check out the video below...
This term's learning pathway is 'Creativity and Innovation'.
We started off this topic with some creative painting.
Each person was given a letter to make using masking tape on a piece of blank paper. They were given a range of paints to use to decorate their letter with one catch - they weren't allowed to use paint brushes.
Some children collected sticks, rocks, feathers. Some used their fingers.
