Police visit the Senior School

Today on Friday the 11th of September the police people came, not to arrest us but to teach us about C.S.I (Crime Scene Investigation) The teachers split us into 2 groups. 1 group stayed at the hall and was learning about finger prints and how to gather evidence at a crime scene. The other group was looking at the dogs in the vans and cars., then we swapped over.
The funnest part was when group 2 were playing around with the sirens and horns.
We also got to see the police dogs working when they did a demonstration on the field. It was so cool! It was such a great day.

CSI - Microscopes

Room 08 have been learning about microscopes. We learnt how to turn it on and how to use it. We got a little box of equipment to use. There were lots of different things such as tweezers, slides, a magnifying glass, labels and a short stick with a sharp end. We collected some items to look at through the microscope but we had to adjust the focus first to be able to see through properly. My favourite item to look at was a leaf and a little piece of carpet. It was fun and we all wish to do it again!

CSI - Mystery substances 2

ON THURSDAY WE WERE TESTING DIFFERENT LIQUIDS,TO SEE IF THEY WOULD REACT TO ANYTHING. TO KEEP OURSELVES SAFE WHILE WORKING WITH CHEMICALS, WE WATCHED A VIDEO ABOUT SAFETY. WE TRIED LOTS OF DIFFERENT THINGS TO SEE WHICH ONE WOULD REACT. THE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE REACTED TO THE YEAST IT BUBBLED UP. WE ALSO DID A PH TEST. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT A PH TEST IS IT IS A TEST THAT INVOLVES LITTLE PIECES OF PAPER AND WHEN YOU PUT IT IN TO A LIQUID IT CHANGES COLOURS . TO SEE IF IT IS ACID, NEUTRAL OR BASE. IT WAS COOL BEING SCIENTISTS.

CSI - Mystery substances

Today we had our first chemistry lesson and we learnt about white powders. It was a messy place to be because some of the powders spilled! The powders that we experimented with were sugar, salt, baking soda and last but not least cornstarch.
We noticed that some of the powders changed when we mixed different liquids with them.
The cornstarch went black when we added the iodine and it became very sticky.
When we added the vinegar to the baking soda it fizzed up.
