Term 2 Electives

 On Fridays afternoons during term 2, the senior school children got to choose an elective. There were many awesome things to choose from - Chinese, ukulele, sewing, drama, and in Room 8 I was doing science/technology challenges.
In each session we were working on planning, creativity, problem solving and team work. Here are a few pictures of a few of the fun things we did.....

Let's get growing!

 At the end of last term Room 8 finally got out into the garden to do some planting!  First we had to pull out the weeds and turn the soil over. Next we learned how to dig a hole that was just the right depth, pull our seedling out gently from the tray, place it in the hole, cover it with soil then push down firmly around it.

We planted the spinach and silverbeet that we had sown from seed and also some broccoli, cabbage, celery and parsley. Our plants have sure had plenty of rain over the last few weeks. Now we are hoping for some sun so they will grow, grow, GROW!

Meat Trays

Miss Bedford and Room 8 have been leaning about recycling so Miss Bedford has got lots of different rubbish bins at her house. They are - recycling, soft plastic, compost and landfill. But Miss Bedford noticed that her landfill bin was filled with lots of unrecyclable meat trays. The unrecyclable meat trays are the black ones like the one in the picture also the black meat trays can't be recycled because the trays have little holes that the blood in the meat gets trapped into and you can't get it out. It is also bad for the environment because they have to go to landfill and a landfill is a big hole in the ground with rubbish.We wrote letters to Foodstuffs and Progressive Enterprises. Foodstuffs is the boss of Pak 'n' Save and New World. We are happy that they have started trialling recyclable meat trays. Progressive Enterprises is the boss of Countdown.Today we got a reply from Foodstuffs! You can see it below. We hope Progressive Enterprises write back soon.
